St. Peters allows a total of three pets in any combination of dogs, cats or domestic others:
The leash law applies to cats as well as dogs. All animals must be kept on a leash at all times when off the owner's property, or be restrained on the owner's property.
Some dogs may feel more responsibility to protect their home when their owner is not there and may be a problem barker only when the neighbors are gone. You can help by letting your neighbors know when their dog's barking is a problem. Your neighbor may not be aware and chances are if you tell them, they will take steps to resolve the annoyance.
You can report the problem to Animal Control. Please leave your name, address and phone number. It is difficult to solve these problems without a known complainant whom we can call and ask questions of during the investigation.
We will speak to the pet owner, notifying them of the concern and offering them the option of using our no-bark collars. If the problem continues after we have spoken to them twice, you will be asked to sign a formal complaint and video tape the dog barking or have one or more neighbors sign a complaint with you. At that time, we will issue a summons for the pet owner to appear in court. You and any other complainants will be required to appear to testify on the complaint.
Your pet is required to have a current rabies shot given by a licensed veterinarian who will issue you a County license tag to be worn on the pet's collar at all times. Even pets that do not go outside are required to have a County rabies tag on. These tags allow us to find you in the event your pet becomes lost and return him/her to you, as well as confirm that the pet is current on the rabies vaccination. We get many calls from people who have lost an indoor pet that they didn't have a rabies tag on.
We also recommend a personalized ID tag, as most people who find a pet will try to call the owner first before having it picked up by Animal Control.
Yes, even if your pet escapes by accident, you will be charged a fine to claim it from the holding facility.

The new subscription-only Blue Cart Crew program will cut our costs for recycling with Blue Bags. The cost to the City of St. Peters for Blue Bags grew from around $50,000 a year to about $190,000 a year over the past decade without the benefit of an increase in recycling. This increase in cost is because many people used Blue Bags for regular trash or other purposes besides recycling.
When you join the Blue Cart Crew, you pledge to recycle with Blue Bags. You can recycle by placing containers in one Blue Bag and paper products in another Blue Bag. Just place your recycling Blue Bags in your cart with regular trash bags. Learn more about St. Peters’ dual stream recycling success.
When you join the Blue Cart Crew, you will receive Blue Bags for recycling. When you run out of Blue Bags, tie a Blue Bag (or any type of bag) on the handle of your Blue Cart (or green cart with Blue Cart Crew sticker). Our staff will drop off a new roll of Blue Bags when they see that you’ve tied a bag on your cart.
Blue Cart Crew members promise to use Blue Bags only for recycling and agree to periodic compliance checks. As a member of the Blue Cart Crew, you're automatically entered into our Blue Bag Recycling Contest!
You won’t be able to recycle curbside in St. Peters. You will not have access to Blue Bags. To recycle, you may bring your recyclable items to the Aytes Community Recycling Center at Recycle City, 131 Ecology Drive.

Individuals of any age (with proper supervision), families, groups and organizations of any type can volunteer. Pre-registration is required.
Yes! However, availability of "kid-friendly" segments is limited. These segments are described in the "easy" category on the Pick Your Creek section. We encourage groups with young children to pre-register early for these locations because they are limited. These sections are next to trails, so if parents are not comfortable with their children cleaning in the creek, they can also clean along the banks and trail.
Yes, please do! Scouts, neighbors, church groups, school groups, etc., are all welcome. But please pre-register so we can accommodate you on the best stream segment for your number and abilities. And remember, for those members participating with a group (such as Scouts or a school club), we ask you to check in with your group leader upon arrival; and then the leader will check you in as one group at the registration table.

If your group has more than 15 people, please mark the box on the registration form indicating you have more than 15 people in your group. When we receive your registration form, we will contact you for the additional names.
The registration form has a place to indicate if the registering volunteer is a child or an adult. We provide gloves in two sizes, child and adult, and this helps us know how many gloves of each size to order.
You may choose to clean a creek segment that runs through your neighborhood, or next to your school, or perhaps along a trail that you frequently use. Still can't decide? Visit the Pick Your Creek Segment page to see the overall map showing which creek segments are targeted during this clean-up, and then read the category description for each segment to see which one interests you most.
We limit the number of volunteers on each segment; when a creek segment has reached its "maximum capacity" for volunteers, we mark that segment as unavailable on the form. By limiting the number of volunteers per segment, we can spread the volunteer effort across more creek mileage for an even bigger clean-up impact watershed-wide. If the segment you have chosen is unavailable, please choose another segment to clean.
Here's the schedule of events:
If you have registered as part of a Scout troop, church organization, or school group, please check in with your group leader only. Then, after your group members have checked in with your group leader, the group leader can approach the check-in table. This will allow for a faster check-in process. If you have registered as an individual or as a family, please go directly to the check-in table and we will mark you on our list. At check-in, we will confirm the number in your group, confirm the creek segment you picked to clean, give you gloves and direct you to your staging area where you will find trash bags for your use. T-shirts will be distributed when volunteers return from cleaning.
Prepare to get dirty! Wear protective clothing, such as long pants and close-toed shoes that won't get sucked off if you step in mud. No flip flops. We will supply simple work gloves, but you may want to bring gloves for the kids in case ours are too big. Bug repellent is recommended.
The free T-shirts are available to all volunteers on a first-come, first-served basis. They will be available for volunteers to pick up after they return from the creek cleaning.
The event kick-off is at 370 Lakeside Park at the Corporate Pavilion so we can hand out supplies and provide enough room for team staging. Volunteers are required to provide their own transportation to their assigned creek segment. Don't know how to get to your creek segment? Visit the "Pick Your Creek Segment" page to find your creek locations. Click on your creek segment number and you'll get an aerial map with general directions printed at the bottom.
Each team will be shadowed by a City worker driving a City truck, and you will determine the best locations to consolidate the pulled out trash. You may decide to keep some members on the top of bank, to act as "runners" to take the trash to the consolidation locations. All trash should be loaded into City trucks for proper disposal.

This is a rain or shine event. However, if severe weather is in the forecast a decision whether or not to hold the event will be made on Friday the day before the event and posted on this website. If the weather is uncertain, you may also call 636-477-6600, ext. 1384, for a pre-recorded message.
Please take a look at the map for the creek segment number you are cleaning. Parking areas are noted as yellow circles or squares, and are typically located on cul-de-sacs near the creek segments. There will be flyers distributed at check-in for placement on your car dashboard indicating you are parked there while cleaning the creek. One more tip: If there is no trail near your stream, check for a storm sewer drain along the street's curb. These drains are usually close to the stream and a good entry point for easier access.
After checking in, volunteers are encouraged to fuel up with free donuts and juice. We will also have bottled water.
Volunteers may enjoy a free hot dog lunch, with chips and a drink starting at 11 am.

In the City Code (Chapter 405), uses are permitted either 'by right' or by "special use permit". A special use is a use which may be appropriate in the district in which it is permitted, if it meets criteria outlined in chapter 405. Applications for special use permits include a site plan as an exhibit; the site plan includes the details of the existing or proposed building, parking, and related site improvements.
Special use permit approval is required for all uses listed as special use in each zoning district; the uses are particular to each district.
Special use permits are reviewed by the Planning Commission at public hearing. After review of the application and the public hearing, the Planning and Zoning Commission takes final action on the proposed use.
Interested citizens can attend the public hearing at the Planning Commission to express their opinion about the proposed special use permit. Also, comments can be mailed or emailed to the Planning Department - these will be provided to the Commission and become part of the official record.

The City of St. Peters and City of St. Charles have a Parks Agreement, which allows City of St. Charles residents to receive a discount on Rec-Plex memberships, Rec-Plex daily admission, outdoor pool memberships, and outdoor pool daily admission. To receive these discounts, a St. Charles Parks Passport card is required. City of St. Charles residents may obtain a Passport card at Blanchette Park (Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm) with a driver’s license with current address and a current tax receipt or current paid utility bill.

If you live within a multi-family complex, such as an apartment or condominium, you can sign up for the Blue Crew program and receive a one-year supply of Blue Bags delivered to your home. Please use the Blue Bags to recycle by placing all of your paper items in one Blue Bag and all of your recyclable container items in another Blue Bag. When your Blue Bag is full, double-tie it closed and place the Blue Bag in one of the dumpsters at your complex along with your trash bags. When the City of St. Peters picks up the trash and Blue Bags from the dumpster, the load will be taken to Recycle City for sorting and the Blue Bag items will be recycled.

In 2003, the City of St. Peters residents approved a $28 annual assessment – the fee is paid with annual real estate taxes.
The program is open to residential property owners within the City of St. Peters limits – this includes single-family homes, duplexes, villas, or condominiums. Properties that are not located within the City limits are not eligible.
The first step is to submit an application along with a receipt for cleaning your lateral, your last year’s paid Real Estate tax receipt, and a $500 application fee. The City contractor will perform a video inspection of the sewer lateral. The video inspection is needed to verify the nature and location of the defect. If a defect is not eligible for the program, the balance of the application fee will be refunded to the homeowner.
The Sewer Lateral Repair Program will provide a maximum of $10,000 per household. Any charges in excess of $10,000 would be the homeowner’s responsibility.
The funds for the Sewer Lateral Repair Program are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until all the funds have been used for that calendar year. If the funds have been used, applications may still be submitted and reviewed. Eligible projects will be placed on a waiting list for the next year. If funds remain at the end of a year, they will be carried over and applied to the next year.
If a repair is deemed eligible, the City will request repair quotes from contractors. The quotes will be returned to the City for review; the City will approve the lowest qualified bid. The City will then execute an agreement with the selected contractor. The City will issue a permit and inspect the repair work. Once the work is completed, the City will issue payment to the contractor.
