Take a trip down to wine country in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Missouri’s “oldest town.” Check out the Ste. Genevieve Visitors’ Center before taking a tour of the Philipson-Valle House. Built in 1818, the building features an authentically restocked mercantile store of an historic trading firm. The family’s living quarters display early empire furnishings, with original mantels and trim. Our generous and delicious family-style lunch at the Ste. Genevieve Cafe will consist of fried chicken, kettle beef, salad, potatoes and gravy, vegetables, rolls, beverages and apple crisp.
After lunch we’ll visit the beautiful and historic Church of St. Genevieve, and drive down St. Mary’s road to view rare vertical-timber French dwellings. After a gorgeous drive through the rolling countryside, enjoy wine tasting on your own at Chaumette Winery, and then an official wine tasting at Crown Valley Winery. The views and ambiance at these two wineries cannot be topped.
The motorcoach bus leaves the west parking lot of St. Peters City Hall, One St. Peters Centre Blvd., at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 26, and returns around 6 p.m. The cost is $92 and includes transportation, lunch, admissions, gratuities, and the Crown Valley wine tasting. This tours involves quite a bit of walking, but mostly at your leisure.
