A special ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, will dedicate Rink A at Rec-Plex South as Wilkinson Ice Arena in honor of the memory of Tim Wilkinson, one of the key people who brought ice rinks to the St. Peters Rec-Plex and more opportunities for area youth to play hockey. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at Rec-Plex South.
Wilkinson’s efforts with Jim Hofer and Tom Connors in the early 1990s led to the inclusion of ice rinks in the original St. Peters Rec-Plex facility, which opened for the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1994. He was one of the founders of the St. Peters Spirit Hockey Club in 1993. As the City of St. Peters Assistant City Administrator, Tim led the team working to build Rec-Plex South and its two NHL-sized ice rinks, which opened in 2007.
Wilkinson was inducted into the St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012 in the builder category. He died earlier this year at the age of 60.
City of St. Peters officials, members of Wilkinson’s family, representatives of the St. Peters Spirit and other friends and associates will gather to dedicate Wilkinson Ice Arena and unveil a plaque memorializing the efforts Tim made to help ensure the future of hockey for generations of girls and boys in our community.
