On National Night Out, fighting crime is as simple as turning on your porch light and stepping outside to spend the evening with your neighbors. The St. Peters Police Department encourages residents to plan a neighborhood BBQ or block party as a way to make a stand against crime in our community on National Night Out, which takes place from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018.

Plan your party ahead of time and invite the Police Department to meet with kids and hand out stickers, coloring books and other fun items. Scruff McGruff the Crime Dog will also make a few special appearances at neighborhood parties.

“We want to work together with our residents to promote safe neighborhoods and reduce crime to its lowest possible level,” said St. Peters Police Officer Melissa Doss. “The key ingredient to that is you, our residents. It’s your participation and cooperation with local police that will help keep crime rates low in our community.”

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the goal of National Night Out is to strengthen neighborhood and law enforcement partnerships to reduce crime.

If you’re interested in setting up a National Night Out neighborhood party with a visit from the St. Peters Police Department, contact Officer Doss at 636-278-2244, ext. 3550.
