Learn how to see as an artist with new art instructor Daniel Fishback, who will be teaching oil painting classes on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. starting Oct. 18, 2017, at St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre.
Fishback will teach class participants how to select a paintable subject and create beautiful oil paintings from photographs. You will also learn how to simplify the subject matter by massing shapes together, leaving out useless details, and using correct values and colors to create depth in your paintings. All skill levels are welcome.
Fishback is “primarily self-taught,” although in 2014 he began studying with some nationally acclaimed artists and has corporate and private collections all across the U.S. and Ireland. A member of Art Saint Louis, Missouri Valley Impressionist Society, and Oil Painters of America, Fishback’s preferred method of painting is “en plein air,” which in French translates to “open air,” which means to paint outdoors. In fact, every year he participates in 8-10 ‘plein air’ events around the Midwest.
“I love being outdoors and seeing the beauty of nature firsthand,” Fishback said. “I like the immediacy and the fresh quality of capturing a scene quickly, seeing the true colors of light and shadow, and giving my personal response to a scene.”
Fishback joins an experienced roster of well-known Cultural Arts Centre art instructors Jerry Thomas, Shirley Nachtrieb and Lorraine McFarland, who all offer several classes, workshops, clinics and demonstrations year-round at the Arts Centre.
