The City of St. Peters has contracted with RJN Group Inc. to conduct smoke testing of the sanitary sewer lines from Tuesday, May 30, 2023 through Friday, June 9, 2023.
Wednesday, May 31, 2023: RJN crews will begin smoke testing if weather permits between 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., within the following streets:
Most North: Indacom Dr.
Most East: Dogwood Ln.
Most South: Meandering Ln.
Most West: Spencer Rd.

Smoke testing locates defects in the sanitary sewer system. The information gained from the study will be used to improve the sewer system in keeping with state and federal regulations.
Notices will be placed on doors for the property owners in the area undergoing testing. Testing will take a few days in each area tested.
Workers will be accessing manholes to “smoke test” sewers and locate defects in the system. The smoke is non-toxic, harmless, and does not create a fire hazard.
WHAT DOES SMOKE TESTING MEAN FOR YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS?
As we noted, the smoke used for testing sanitary sewers is not harmful. The smoke should not enter your home or business unless you have defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps. If you have seldom used drains, please pour water into the drain to fill the trap, which should prevent smoke from entering. Drain traps should always be filled with water to prevent sewer gases or odors from entering the building. If the smoke does enter your home or business, the potential exists for sewer gases to also enter your home or business and you should consult your licensed plumber to fix the problem.
If smoke is found in the building, simply open some windows and the smoke will dissipate quickly. Also, please notify the testing personnel from RJN Group working in the neighborhood that smoke has been found.
We anticipate the smoke testing will require a few days in each area we test. Your cooperation is appreciated. The information gained from this study will be used to improve the sewer system in keeping with state and federal regulations.
