Put the Landfill on a Diet

Put the Landfill on a Diet Blue Bag ItThe landfills are filling up and costing us all more money. Do your part and help fight back! The United States Environmental Protection Agency says that on average we produce about 5 pounds of trash per person EVERY DAY … that adds up to about 1,800 pounds per year for each one of us! A family of four creates enough waste annually to match the weight of a Humvee!

This trash ends up in our landfills and costs us all in tipping fees – which continue to rise. There are so many ways YOU can help with this problem—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Here are some tips:

  • Join the Blue Cart Crew and recycle with Blue Bags!
  • Use reusable cups and silverware instead of single-use plastic cups and utensils.
  • Donate unwanted clothes and household items instead of tossing them in the trash.
  • Shop locally in-store instead of online and avoid excess packaging.
  • Use reusable bags instead of plastic bags when shopping.
  • Go paperless with St. Peters BillPay! Learn how to go paperless (PDF).
