Donating to the Memorial Program is a wonderful way to commemorate an event or honor someone special. There are several donations available including memorial trees and benches.
When an application for a memorial is received, staff will notify the donor of an estimated date of when the memorial will be installed. The donor may include a list of names and addresses of others they would like to be notified of the memorial. Once the memorial is installed, staff will send a detailed map showing the exact location of the memorial.
Please note: to maintain a natural setting for all park visitors, objects such as flowers, shepherd hooks, memorabilia or other decorations are not permitted at memorials.
A memorial tree will stand in tribute for many years to come, providing future generations with a lasting legacy of shade, beauty, and comfort.
Memorial trees can be planted on city-owned property including parks, recreation trails, the golf course, and city-owned facilities. Staff will work with the donor to pick the best species and planting site for their memorial tree.
There is a wide variety of shade, ornamental, and evergreen trees available. Only the best quality trees purchased from reputable local growers and nurseries are used. These trees are installed and maintained by skilled arborists.
Trees are typically installed between December and April when conditions are the most favorable for the transplanting of the tree. Donations received after the planting season may be delayed until the following planting season.
A memorial bench installed in a park provides a restful moment for all to see and remember. Benches are made of composite lumber and a 3-inch by 4-inch marker is included. Benches must have an accessible route and therefore the placement of memorial benches may be limited.
An engraved plastic marker is included with every memorial tree and bench. The markers are 4-inch circles. All bench markers come in silver. Tree markers are available in either silver or copper and have the option of adding symbols. One of the following symbols can be added to your tree marker upon request:
