Overview

The Veterans Memorial Commission is composed of volunteer residents and operates as a public interface between City residents and City officials to explore ways in which to honor area veterans and to make recommendations for the preservation and upkeep of the Veterans Memorial. The Commission also plans and coordinates appropriate events throughout the year to honor our veterans and encourage citizen involvement in improvements to the Veterans Memorial.

The Commission consists of 12 resident members, comprised of an appointed Chairperson, two members from each ward and two additional members-at-large, plus one youth representative who serves as a non-voting member. The commission has a minimum six members who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Members are appointed to serve for a term of two years.

Regular meetings of the Commission will be held on the first Monday of each month except that no meeting shall be held in the months of January, June and July. If the first Monday falls on a City observed holiday then the regular meeting shall be held on the second Monday of the month. Meeting dates may be changed or cancelled by consensus of the Commission. All meetings shall be open to the public.

Alderman Gregg Sartorius serves as the Aldermanic Liaison to the Veterans Memorial Commission.
