How to Dispose of Yard Waste
Yard waste includes mixed yard waste, brush, and tree limbs (no larger than 30" in diameter and 8' in length). Wood chips may be mixed or clean. You may place these items in a paper yard waste bag or brown yard waste cart for curbside pickup (
LEARN MORE ABOUT CURBSIDE YARD WASTE COLLECTION), or you may bring these items to

Earth Centre for processing.
Do NOT place yard waste in your regular solid waste trash cart or in Blue Bags. Missouri State law prohibits the disposal of yard waste in landfills.
Lumber, landscape timbers, railroad ties, rock, dirt, concrete, asphalt, plastic, or metal are NOT yard waste and should not be set out for curbside yard waste pickup or brought to Earth Centre. Some of these items may be eligible for bulky trash pickup. Call ext. 636.970.1456 to schedule a bulky trash pickup and to find out which of these items may be included.
Using Earth Centre
When you arrive at Earth Centre, you will have to stop at the Scale House before dumping any yard waste, wood chips, and/or to purchase any products. To dump on this property without permission is considered illegal dumping.
Yard Waste Disposal for St. Peters Residents
St. Peters residents may dispose of up to 30 cubic yards of yard waste per calendar year at Earth Centre at no charge by showing their Resident Privilege Card. Note: 30 cubic yards equals approximately 15 pickup truck loads.
Yard Waste Disposal Fees for Non-Residents
A nominal fee is charged for non-residents and commercial customers to use the Earth Centre. The City accepts MasterCard, Visa, Discover, cash, or checks with proper identification (valid driver's license and current phone number).

Yard Waste Reduction
You can still have a beautiful lawn when using the strategy of
Cut It High, Let It Lie. This program has been adapted by the
University of Missouri Extension to meet the needs of our area.
When you mow at a height of 3 inches, mow more often and leave the clippings on the lawn, it allows the grass to develop deeper roots and crowds out weeds. Leaving the clippings makes lawns healthier and does not cause thatch.
For more information, view the publication entitled
"Don’t Bag It" or call ext. 1463 at either 636.278.2244 or 636.477.6600 to have the publication sent to you.
DID YOU KNOW? - Yard wastes, such as leaves, grass clippings and branches, have been banned from Missouri landfills since January 1992 and nationally since March 1995.
- Yard waste accounts for approximately 20 percent of all waste materials.
- Up to 25 percent of your lawn's total fertilizer needs are supplied by clippings left on the lawn.
- Clippings contain 80 to 85 percent water and decompose quickly.
- University of Missouri research shows clippings do not contribute to thatch problems.
- Average mowing time can be reduced by 30 percent when grass clippings are not bagged.
- Besides saving time, you also save money by not having to purchase bags or pay for extra trash removal.
