St. Peters Youth Leadership Council
The St. Peters Youth Leadership Council operates as a public interface between City youth and City officials. The Council’s goals include identifying concerns of the community’s youth and to advise, suggest and make recommendations for projects and programs in promoting public awareness and availability of youth programs and related events of interest to our city youth.
The Youth Leadership Council consists of up to nine members of which at least five members are residents of the City and up to four members are non-residents. The members must be actively enrolled in Public or Private schooling in grades 7-12, and cannot exceed the age of 19. Members shall be appointed for a term of one year with an anniversary date of July 1 each year, and who continue to serve in such capacity until their successor is appointed and qualified by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. Membership applications are accepted year-round.
The St. Peters Youth Leadership Council was created to give a voice to the youth of St. Peters by bridging the gap between the youth and local government. Through gaining an understanding of the basic elements of how a city runs, we will set the goals and ambitions of generations to come.
Membership on this council counts toward community service required by some schools and clubs. Opportunities for Council members include, but are not limited to, functioning as a direct interface with the community with the perspective of a youth to establish and maintain a good working relationship with governmental entities, residents and civic organizations within our community which are, or which would like to be, active in youth programs and activities. The council hopes to engage with and learn the basic elements of how a city is organized and run. Thus, the Council fosters and supports youth organizations and clubs that provide leadership and organizational structure for both youth programs and events in our community.
Regular meetings are held monthly, normally on the second Wednesday at 4 p.m. Meeting locations vary. Aldermen
Tommy Roberts and
Gus Elliott serve as the Aldermanic Liaisons to the St. Peters Youth Leadership Council.
