2012 WEEKLY ART EXPERIENCE CAMPS**:
Drawing/Painting Camp – Expressionism & Impressionism
Toddlers, 6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (June 4 – 8)
These two different kinds of art will help open your child’s imagination. Time spent on impressionist drawing and painting will include ordinary subject matter marked by thin, yet visible, brush strokes with emphasis on accurate depiction of light, the inclusion of movement and unusual visual angles.
In contrast, the expressionistic focus will be placed on the gross distortion of the individual’s subjective view of the people and world around them. Works of this type were often painted to evoke emotion as opposed to reflecting reality.
Drawing/Painting Camp – Art Nouveau
Preschoolers, 6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (June 11 – June 15)
Art Nouveau is a genre of art marked by clean, twisting lines that included flowers, plants and animals in harmony with the artist’s artistic medium, whether it be painting, jewelry, or architecture. Balance with the natural elements was the primary goal of this type of art.
Drawing/Painting Camp – Action Painting
Preschoolers, 6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (June 18-22)
Action painting, commonly referred to as abstract expressionism, is a drawing camp for a style of art in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed and smeared onto canvas or paper. The emphasis for this style of work is placed more on the act of painting as opposed to the finished piece of art.
Sculpture Camp – w/Clay
6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (June 25-29) Arts Centre
Sculpture camp would be perfect for the children who like to work with their hands. Class will include time on the pottery wheel and molding clay.
Drawing/Painting Camp – Folk Art
Toddlers, 6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (July 9 – 13)
Folk Art is a type of art that reflects the cultural identity and traditional values of any given society. This art may consist of cloth, wood, paper, metal, clay, or any number of other substitutes common to the community.
Theatre Camp – Act I
9- to 15-year-olds (July 9-13)
Campers will concentrate on learning basic theater technique, stage direction, character building, etc. in this fun summer camp.
Sculpture Camp – w/Clay
6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (July 16 – 20)
Sculpture camp would be perfect for the children who like to work with their hands. Class will include time on the pottery wheel and molding clay.
Theatre Camp – Act II
9- to 15-year-olds (July 16-20)

Drawing/Painting Camp – Pointillism
Preschoolers, 6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (July 23 – 27)
In this class your child will use small, distinct dots of pure color, and apply them in patterns to form an image. This type of art relies on the artist’s ability to mentally visualize the task at hand and transfer to paper using a full range of tones.
Fencing Camp 101
10- to 16-year-olds (July 23 – 27)
Your child will learn fencing basics, including the En Garde position, stance, defense, attacks and courtesy. Wear sweatpants or running pants to class. All equipment is provided by the instructor.
Drawing/Painting Camp – A Twist on Photography
6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (July 30 – Aug. 3)
Photography bugs will love this class. Each student will receive a disposable camera. Students will then pick their favorite photo to paint or draw.
Fencing Camp 102
10- to 16-year-olds (July 23 – 27)
Campers enrolling in Fencing 102 must first attend Fencing Camp 101.
Drawing/Painting Camp – Pop Art
Preschoolers, 6- to 9-year-olds & 10 & up (Aug. 6 – 10)
In this form of abstract expressionism, students take imagery from the popular culture of their time and create new pieces of art to include them. Good examples include advertising products, product labels, and comic books.
