In 1999, the City of St. Peters became the first Tree City USA in St. Charles County.  The program, sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, recognizes municipalities who demonstrate a strong commitment to responsible urban forestry management.  The City must reapply each year to maintain its Tree City USA status. 

Since 2000, the City has earned four consecutive Tree City USA Growth Awards in recognition of the ongoing efforts to improve its urban forestry program.  Only a fraction of Tree City USA communities earn Growth Awards each year.
