Save Your Aluminum Cans for Our Soldiers

In these economic times, it’s not always easy to make donations of cash, even if the cause is close to your heart. The City of St. Peters invites you to donate something you probably already discard as a way to say thanks to our military personnel for all they do—your aluminum cans.

Hundreds of military personnel and their families travel through Lambert International Airport every day. The USO provides a source of comfort and a full range of services to these travelers. The USO receives no government funding and relies solely on private and corporate donations and that is why something as simple as donating your aluminum cans is so important.

When you donate your aluminum cans in the Pennies for Patriots collection container, the cans are recycled and the value of the cans is donated to the USO. Depending on the going rate of aluminum, each can is worth approximately two pennies, thus the name "Pennies for Patriots."

Mayor Pagano said, "While enjoying picnics and get-togethers this summer with your friends and family, our soldiers are busy defending your right to do so. Please save and donate your aluminum cans for the men and women protecting our way of life."

The City invites individuals, groups and businesses from neighboring communities to join in the efforts of supporting our soldiers through the USO. Donations of aluminum cans for this effort may be brought to St. Peters’ Recycle City and placed in the specially marked dumpster under the American flag in the recyclables drop-off area. This is a great project for Scout or church groups.

To get to Recycle City, take Mid Rivers Mall Drive north of I-70 over the railroad tracks. Turn right on Ecology Drive and follow to Recycle City.
