The Planning Department is charged with the oversight and enforcement of the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance – Chapter 405 of the Municipal Code. As part of this effort, the Planning Department reviews all new developments planned for the City of St. Peters. This entails reviewing development plans and plats and preparing recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Aldermen. The Planning staff also coordinates the Board of Adjustment, reviewing applications for variances and preparing recommendations to the Board.

Applications for changes of zoning and special use permits are also reviewed by the Planning Department staff. Recommendations on each petition are prepared and presented to the Planning Commission and Board of Aldermen. The Planning staff is also responsible for processing annexation petitions, use reviews, sign permits, and home occupations.

In addition, the Planning Department staff prepares amendments and updates to the Zoning and Subdivision regulations to ensure that the ordinance addresses and reinforces community standards; this includes enforcement of the zoning code as well.

Long range projects are also overseen by the Planning Department such as preparation of the Comprehensive Plan and long range planning for future annexations.
