Work Zone Speed Limit Reduced during Mexico Road Resurfacing Project

July 10, 2017

Effective immediately, the City of St. Peters has lowered the speed limit from 40 mph to 25 mph in the construction zone on Mexico Road between West Sunny Hill Boulevard and Mid Rivers Mall Drive. Concerns about construction worker and driver safety led to the need for lowering the speed limit while construction continues. The project is expected to last through the summer.

The contractor making improvements to Mexico Road in the area from West Sunny Hill Boulevard to Mid Rivers Mall Drive requested the reduction in the posted speed limit. St. Peters City Code allows the Traffic Engineer to temporarily establish traffic regulations, including reduced speed zones, in construction work zones. Signage has been changed to reflect the new speed limit and give drivers advance warning of the reduced speed zone. Police will enforce the posted 25 mph speed limit during the project.

As always, please use caution when traveling through work zones throughout the area.

Work on Mexico Road in this area requires daily lane closures in both westbound and eastbound directions, while leaving at least one lane open for traffic each way.

The Mexico Road Resurfacing Phase II project includes replacement of the existing asphalt pavement surface, removal and replacement of defective concrete pavement, and concrete diamond grinding to improve pavement smoothness. Sidewalks also will be repaired where necessary and improved to meet current ADA standards, and traffic signals will be upgraded.
